Like a complete fool, I've managed to run out of fuel in an empty system (NS 851).

I figured I'd just be able to fight somebody and steal their fuel, but everybody jumps in and out of that system so fast I don't have a chance. The pirates like to shoot a few missiles at me before they disappear, though. Punks. Smile

Am I screwed? Can I hack my player file, or should I just start over?

Ooh!! Oooh!! Edit your player file, give yourself all the gas you'll ever need, give yourself the maximum amount of Double-Dollars, and Turn on all the weapons switches!!! Okay, I don't think you cn actually do that, but you should be able to Mr. Green.

You can open your player file with TextEdit and change the value under the key 'Fuel'. I haven't tried it personally tho, so don't blame me if your ship explodes or anything Twisted Evil

Yep, you can do that. Probably when I hit 1.0 I'll obfuscate the player file so you can't do that, but in the meantime it's very useful for debugging.

Additionally, in another API which I haven't released publicly, you can type into the console:
Code:
player setSystem:(Controller componentNamed:'default.systems.Sol')

(that should be all on one line)

or whatever system you want Very Happy

I think you should leave the player file, so that "cheating" will be possible. Its not even a multiplayer game where people play for competition...

It may not be multiplayer now, but Paul is planning to have it multiplayer eventually (at least I think, we haven't talked about it in a while). Unfortunately we'll need some money to be able to run a server for hosting something like that.

THAT"S WHY YOU SHOULD ADVERTISE MORE>>>>>

Then when there's thousands of players, set up donation system.

Is this game open-source? you should join sourceforge, It has free webspace, free domain, free lots of stuff, even advertisement. Hopefully some linux person would come and package it, then this game would be available to everyone except those who use windows!! Bwahahaha!

It's not currently open source. At some point it will definitely be open... I'm not sure if that would work best right now, though.
