I found some helpful stuff on this from the OpenGL website Here.

I'm horribly surprised that transparency is not supported. Wouldn't someone have come up with it by now? It just seems rediculous.

Ya, transperency is kind of required in a game engine. You need it for all kinds of stuff.

Hmm, that is interesting. I will have to look into it more thoroughly in a couple weeks. It's not that transparency isn't supported, but that depth sorting and transparency interfere with each other. I had been under the impression that I would have to sort each polygon manually to enable transparency, but a brief glance over that material seems to indicate that may not be the case. But I'll look into it more later... thanks for bringing that to my attention!

Well, it turns out it's only glAlpha that requires depth testing to be turned off, and glBlend does everything that one might expect something with the name glAlpha to do.

Here's a picture with some translucent action:

If you could make a planet not show up on the map, you just make it completely tansparent and wait for people to find it... Twisted Evil

Yay! I helped with something! I've been busy this summer, taking a class and going to a conference really drains my time.

Erm, so it just doesn't show up on the map, or you can't see it from the cockpit, either? Now that would be funny... stealth planets!

And for the next release, I'm hoping to get 10.4 compatibility here soon, so then I can have everything working together.

O..... Kay...... Yes I meant a planet that only shows up if say you aim at it and select it. And it doesn't show up in the populated planets thing on the galaxy map thing.
