When Man (and Woman) first dipped a toe into the bottomless vastness which is the universe, They thought that they were alone. The stars were silent.

But then they found the footprint in the sand

Easily missed among the vastness of space (which is %99 nothing - and some hydrogen) were the clues that someone had come before. Little things - like the footprints on the Moon - where no human had gone. The square asteroid circling Epsilon Minor - right were a habitable planet would have been. Hundreds, thousands of clues that we were not alone. But not a single alien. Not one to be seen anywhere.

Human curiosity fuelled by these artefacts, the Diaspora has seen humanity leap from the cradle of life to spread across the solar system and into the void.

Across the worlds, habitats and ships the arguments raged over what the objects were for. Some said garbage, others suggested artwork.

A small minority said 'Bait."

Have the human race band together against the, er, /Baiting/ aliens, and again, you can choose which side to be on.

And have some mysterious aliens lurking somewhere, just sorta sitting there…

And have some tracts of empty systems…

I'm liking it Very Happy All it needs is some tense, eerie music and then BAM- an alien jumps out at you! Hmm, all of a sudden I feel like playing Aliens v Predator. Wink

I was kicking the idea of the big bad aliens actually being humans - time travellers. Changing the past to affect the future, kind of deal.

That way, if the missions were written well enough, you could end up trying to stop yourself from completing a previous mission - with all the complications that would ensure.

that would be interesting, actually that would be downright cool Cool you have to stop yourself but if you kill yourself from the past you die...the plot thickens Shocked

yeah i can see that working! It would feel a bit like timespliters but it would be freaking sweet! like on the first mission you try to accomplish your ship could be damaged by a far superior ship, but then instead of boarding you or destroying the disabled vessel he just leaves... then a roaming trader comes and helps you out and takes you back to a port. then that ship (which should be very distinct) would shadow you through out those missions and stuff. It would give you some mystery and at the same time a rival to try and best... and what better rival than yourself? your later missions would turn out to be played from the other you perspective... like a mission would seem very out of place... to go and disable a shuttle and then... you realize where you have seen this before and stop before you kill your past self... you then go AWOL and try to defend your past self from the enemies you have made in the future.(Maybe aliens with time travel, or a wiser more evolved human race? maybe their motive for change the past is to establish a new empire or ride the galaxy of the empire... maybe they would have to assassinate the emperor or something and after you do those missions the game would change... some ripple effect throughout the universe...) you would shadow yourself from your old missions! this would really be cool guys!
and maybe instead of it being your first mission.. it happens right after the prologue right as you start the game... we start it off with a story of how you are on a routine trading shipment and you stop to check out a derelict space craft... then as you are trying to leave the system the future you attacks and the story proceeds from there as you try to figure out who it was and why they let you live...

OOOOOOH MAN THIS WOULD BE SOO FUN!
Great idea!
