True, and you were actually the first person to respond when I posted on MacBetaGroups.

How do you like the sound of Betatesterus Primus? Razz

well now i feel special Very Happy ... and on a more on-topic note...

for the multiple universe idea i dont think there should be another you and all that, it should just be an alternate universe, not an identical one

feel free to listen to that suggestion or not, it would be cool either way but thats just my opinion Wink

Been thinking about this some more today.

What is needed is a crisis that affects *everyone* No matter what mission thread you follow, sooner or later you have to deal with

Baby.

A small black hole that's heading for our neck of the galaxy. It'll tug planets out of orbit, put out enough rad to kill every solar colony and ship.

That's what the Big Bad is that the TT's have come back to try and prevent.

I've also been thinking about them as well.
To avoid the temporal paradoxes, Time Travel is a one way trip. You can't go back - even the mere presence of yourself in the past is enough to ensure that your exact future never existed. So you could have TT's from closely 'related' universes/timelines, but never from your own.
Say good-bye to all your friends and neighbours folks - apart from the ones that jump backward with you.

So they've come back in time to influence events enough so that when Baby does arrive, Humanity can do something about it.

Of course, that's the next big problem.

I wonder what happens if you dump antimatter into a black hole...sounds like a recipe for blowing up the universe...

Will have to think about this some more - how do you get rid of a black hole....

Ok, the problem with using Baby as the Big Bad is how to get rid of it - assuming you complete the missions.

* The reason that the Time Travellers came back was to stop the Baby.

* Their time machine was destroyed when they used it.

So - build a new time machine, mount it in/on something strong and toss it into Baby on a time delay.

The new time machine activates, Baby is sucked back in time - right back to the Beginning. "In the Beginning there was nothing - which exploded."

But that leaves the problem of destroying our time when the machine activates. However, the time machine would have passed Baby's Event Horizon - and outside our time. So our timeline is preserved, and Baby is gone.

Another question is: why do you care about the other universe? Confused In the general many-worlds theory, everything happens somewhere. So if you go back in time to a different universe, you'll just create a new branch where you didn't go back in time so everyone will still die. Wink

Ah, whatever. Nobody really knows how the quantum world works, anyway. Very Happy It's all just a bunch of theories...

For the TT the past is their past - just when they go back, the future isn't *their* future - they've changed history.

And they have to find a place int it; start out with no money, no one knows them; and they have no idea how to do anything.

If you were going back in time, there are any amount of things you would do to prepare.

Elementary research for one.

This is supposed to be a game, not an educational program. Wink

If you were going back to say, 1930, you wouldn't go back wearing runners & a tracksuit. You'd have a look in a few old newspapers, films and so on. You'd also make sure that the money you took back was correct for the time, and try to make sure that you were up to date on current events.

It would be the same deal for the time travellers - except how much more info would there be available? (assuming we fix the magnetic degradation problem and the CD rusting).

So they would come back knowing a hell of a lot - while there might be a few surprises at first (things that were not included in their briefs), they would be fully functional.

And rich people can get away with a hell of a lot. Either sell some tech, or just bring some gold and other precious minerals back with them. Sell a bit for working capital, and you're set up.

Don't forget that they'd also have the future tech to help them with their mission.

To save mankind - and collect the whole set.

But wouldn't affecting the future affect them in a way in which they would not be able to go back in time to mess up the future etc. etc., in a paradox or whatever those things are.

The Time Machine's they use are one way only - go back in time, everyone you know, everything is gone. Your going back means that 'your' time is destroyed. The time you 'land' in changes track slightly, goes down a different leg of the trousers of time - and you might be able to avoid whatever caused you to go back in the first place.

Not really - if you want complicated, consider the Grandfather paradox.

You go back in time and kill your grandfather as a child.
Therefore your father wasn't born, and neither were you.
So who killed your grandfather?

The way I'e laid out seems to avoid as many of the deadfalls in TT that I can think off.
