Does anyone have IRC? If we decide to have a big meeting to try and get stuff done faster, we could use IRC. It's absolutely free (w00t!). It's safer than AIM because anyone can log into AIM, but with IRC we open a chanel and set a password. If we decide on meeting times, we could say which channel we'll be on and use the usual password. The password would decided by e-mail; wouldn't do good to have the password on the board. Laughing

sounds like a good plan, but then theres the problem with time differences and all that. i wouldn't mind giving it a try, except for the distinct lack of knowing much of anything to do with IRC Cool Confused speaking of security, has anyone noticed that almost all of the over 50 members of the forum have no posts and all have websites? perhaps they should be removed... Confused

I was just thinking the same thing myself. Maybe there should be a time limit if that if you don't post in over a year, your status is removed. Of course, moderators could reset the clock in case someone is going on a a REALLY long trip.

And the time differences could be solved by gifuring what GMT is and then someone sitting down to figure out when all the times line up and when prime spots are. From west coast to east coast is only a three hour time difference. That leaves about >thinking< four hours of time when everyone could be on. 3:00-7:00 pacific and 6:00-10:00 eastern. This allows for school (west) and bedtime (east).

Also, who makes up the things under our names? I really like mine. Mr. Green It changed today from Moritus Something Or Other Nomulus Something Or Other. I liked that one too.

I'm in eastern time here. In general Monday and Friday nights work best for me, or sometime in the afternoon on the weekends. I don't know much about IRC, but I use Conversation as my IRC client and it seems to work pretty well.

Great, sounds good. I'll see what I can do. I think we should test it out and figure out how to use it before we try to use it for a big meeting, though; just so we know what we're doing. Frankly, I've never IMed before because I never had a modem in my Linux. Embarassed I can't use Macintosh because the disk is completely full and it screws up a lot. I need to do some winter/spring cleaning to fix it. Very Happy I've procrastinated a lot and just let it sit. Now I feel bad.

Oh, and I'll need to know when people will be available in GMT so that I can figure out the best time slot.

so far:
aplasticspork: 8:00am-4:00pm GMT
Me: 8:00am-2:00pm GMT (sometimes 9:00am-2:00pm GMT)
Paul:

Oh, wait I messed it up. PST is GMT-8, EST is GMT-5?, and Central is GMT-6?
HELP!

You guys may want to check out gaim. It lets you chat on Yahoo IM, AIM, and IRC at the same time and works on Mac, Linux, BSD, and that other OS made by Macrohard. Very Happy

Yeah, that's right. Most Fridays and Mondays (including tonight, if people so desire) I'm available around 7:30-10:00 PM EST = 12:30 PM-3:00 AM GMT.

Are you sure you did that right Paul? Check here to make sure.
According to that site, I'm 12:00am-6:00am GMT on weekdays. I'm completely free on Saturdays.

I'm GMT-8 which means I add 8 to what the current time is. If you're EST, then translating what you gave me in GMT would mean that you good time is between 7:30am-10:00pm EST. Are COMPLETELY free on Mondays and Fridays?

Ow... conversion sucks. Confused

The titles are automatic…based on number of posts. They're vaguely humorous SciFi/Fantasy references.

As for IRC, I can set up our own IRC server if you-all would like, or we could use something like Freenode.

Cool, I'll e-mail you the password Paul and I decided on (use +k for password feature on freenode). You can use any IRC thingy-group to make the room that you want. Thanks for the Help!
